Five Nights at Freddy's is a horror series created by Scott Cawthon in 2014, and continues to be made today. Whilst the games themselves are relatively simple - the lore connected with the story is incredibly complicated.

Springtrap made his first appearance in FNAF 3, his story being told through 8-bit minigames inside the main game. It is revealed to the player that Springtrap is actually haunted by William Afton - a founder of Fazbear entertainment and the murderer of the missing children that too haunt the pizza place.

Afton was in the Yellow Rabbit suit during a springlock failure, resulting in his slow and painful death, and adopting the name Springtrap. Then after 30 years, the animatronic was found amongst the rotten restaurant and Afton's soul was able to live on.
